Significance
Akshaya Tritiya, also called Akha Teej, is one of the most auspicious days of the Hindu calendar. Akshaya means "never diminishing," and anything begun or gifted on this day is believed to grow and endure.
It is regarded as an abujh muhurat — auspicious in its entirety, needing no separate muhurat — and is linked to Lord Vishnu, Parashurama's birth and the start of Treta Yuga.
Rituals
People buy gold and property, begin new ventures, and perform charity and Lakshmi-Vishnu puja. Donating food, water, and to the needy is especially meritorious. At Badrinath and Vrindavan special darshans occur on this day.
