Significance
Anant Chaturdashi is dedicated to Anant, the infinite form of Lord Vishnu. Devotees tie a sacred fourteen-knotted thread (Anant Sutra) and pray for protection and freedom from troubles.
It is also the tenth and final day of Ganesh Utsav, when the Ganesha idols are given a grand farewell.
Rituals
Vishnu is worshipped and the Anant Sutra is tied on the arm after fourteen days of vow. In Maharashtra and beyond, enormous processions carry Ganesha idols for immersion (Visarjan) in water bodies amid music and devotion.
How the date is fixed
Anant Chaturdashi falls on the Chaturdashi of Bhadrapada Shukla paksha, ten days after Ganesh Chaturthi.
