Significance
Hanuman Jayanti celebrates the birth of Lord Hanuman, the mighty vanara devotee of Lord Rama, embodiment of strength, courage, devotion and selfless service. He is invoked for protection and the removal of obstacles.
In North India it is observed on Chaitra Purnima; some regions mark it on other dates.
Rituals
Devotees recite the Hanuman Chalisa and Sundara Kanda, offer sindoor, jasmine oil and boondi laddus, and visit Hanuman temples. Many observe a fast and read from the Ramayana. Tuesdays and Saturdays are especially dear to him.
How the date is fixed
In the widely followed North Indian tradition Hanuman Jayanti falls on the full-moon day (Purnima) of Chaitra.
