Significance

Kajari Teej (also Kajali or Badi Teej) is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, observed chiefly in North India. Married women pray for the longevity and well-being of their husbands, and unmarried girls for a good match.

It is named after the Kajari folk songs sung during the monsoon.

Rituals

Women observe a fast, worship a neem branch representing the goddess, and offer to the Moon before breaking the fast. Traditional Kajari songs, swings and community gatherings mark the day.

How the date is fixed

Kajari Teej falls on the Tritiya of Bhadrapada Krishna paksha — about a fortnight after Hariyali Teej.
