Significance
Purnima, the full-moon day, is considered highly auspicious for worship, charity and vrat. Many great festivals — Guru Purnima, Buddha Purnima, Sharad Purnima, Kartik Purnima — fall on Purnima days.
The full moon is associated with fullness, satisfaction and the worship of Lord Vishnu and the Moon.
Rituals
Devotees observe a fast, worship Vishnu and Lakshmi, offer to the Moon, take holy dips and give charity. Satyanarayan Katha is commonly performed on Purnima. The night's moonlight is itself considered blessed.
