Significance
Sankashti Chaturthi, the fourth tithi of the Krishna paksha each month, is dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles (Sankashti means "deliverance from difficulty"). The vrat is believed to remove troubles and fulfil wishes.
The Sankashti falling in Magha, Angarki (on a Tuesday), is considered especially powerful.
Rituals
Devotees fast through the day, worship Ganesha with durva grass and modak, and break the fast only after sighting the moon and offering it arghya at moonrise. Each month's Sankashti has a distinct name and peetha.
