Significance
Sawan Somvar are the Mondays of Shravan, the holiest month for Lord Shiva. Monday (Somvar) is Shiva's own day, so fasting on Shravan Mondays is regarded as exceptionally auspicious for his grace.
Unmarried women keep the vrat for a good husband; married women for their family's well-being.
Rituals
Devotees fast, perform jalabhishek and rudrabhishek of the Shivling, offer bel leaves, dhatura and water — often water carried by Kanwariyas from holy rivers — and recite Shiva stotras. The Solah Somvar vow may begin in Shravan.
