What is today's tithi?

It is shown in the Panchang table above, calculated at sunrise for the city you select. Pick your city from the dropdown to get the tithi that applies to you.

Is the daily Panchang the same all over India?

No. The five limbs are read at local sunrise, so cities far apart in longitude can show a different tithi or nakshatra on the same date.

When does the Panchang change over to the next day?

At sunrise, not at midnight. A reading dated today stays in force until tomorrow's sunrise at your place.

Which ayanamsha is used?

Lahiri (Chitrapaksha), the standard used by the Indian national calendar and by most published panchangs.

Can I see the Panchang for a past or future date?

Yes — use the date picker above. You can move day by day with the arrows or jump to any date to plan ahead.

Why does today's Panchang show two nakshatras?

Because a nakshatra rarely lasts exactly one day. The table lists the one running at sunrise and the one that follows it, each with its own start and end time, so you can see precisely when the change-over happens.

What is Rahu Kaal and should I avoid it?

Rahu Kaal is one-eighth of the daylight, its position set by the weekday. New undertakings, journeys and major purchases are traditionally avoided during it — work already in progress is not stopped. Yamaganda and Gulika Kaal are read the same way.

What is Abhijit Muhurat, and why does it sometimes say None?

Abhijit is the eighth of the day's fifteen muhurtas, straddling midday, and is used when no other auspicious window is available. On Wednesday that slot is counted as Dur Muhurtam instead, so the Panchang shows no Abhijit for that day.

What are Varjyam and Amrit Kalam?

Both are computed from the running nakshatra. Varjyam is a window to be rejected for new work; Amrit Kalam is the same window twenty ghatis (about eight hours) later and is considered especially favourable for beginnings.

What do Dinamana and Ratrimana mean?

Dinamana is the length of the day from sunrise to sunset and Ratrimana the length of the night that follows. Every muhurat on this page is a fraction of one of them, which is why all the timings shift through the year and between cities.

Tithi Details

The primary tithi for this day is Dwadashi, which concludes at 11:17 PM. In Vedic tradition, the tithi is the lunar day that determines the energy of the period. The tithi Dwadashi is associated with the deity Vishnu (Hari) and belongs to the Bhadra group. It is described as a Bhadra (auspicious) tithi — traditionally good for health matters, yagna, gaining things.

Following this, the Trayodashi tithi begins, ending at 10:16 PM, 8 Oct. This tithi is associated with the deity Kamadeva and the Jaya group. It is considered a Jaya (victory) tithi — traditionally good for contests, tasks needing success, learning and arts.

Nakshatra Analysis

The lunar mansion at sunrise is Magha, which lasts until 09:41 PM. Each nakshatra is governed by a specific deity; for Magha, the deity is the Pitrs. This nakshatra is of the Ugra (fierce) type and is traditionally not preferred for auspicious beginnings; suited to firm, forceful tasks.

The subsequent nakshatra is Purva Phalguni, which starts at 09:41 PM and ends at 09:20 PM, 8 Oct. Governed by Bhaga, it is of the Ugra (fierce) type and is traditionally not preferred for auspicious beginnings; suited to firm, forceful tasks.

Understanding these placements is a key part of using an online panchang to align activities with cosmic energies.

Yoga and Karana

The yoga for this day is Shubha, which ends at 02:52 AM, 8 Oct and is traditionally considered auspicious.

Later, the Shukla yoga begins at 02:52 AM, 8 Oct and lasts until 12:58 AM, 9 Oct, which is traditionally considered auspicious.

Regarding the karana, the first is Kaulava, ending at 11:54 AM. It is a movable (Chara) karana and is auspicious, good for friendship and harmony. This is followed by Taitila from 11:54 AM to 11:17 PM, which is a movable (Chara) karana and is auspicious, good for gentle and household work. These elements help in refining the panchang for the day to find the most harmonious moments.

Weekday Significance

This day is Wednesday, which is ruled by the planet Mercury. In the Vedic tradition, each weekday is associated with specific deities; for this day, the deities are Ganesha and Vishnu. The energy of Mercury traditionally influences the general mood and suitability of the day. Activities aligned with the nature of Ganesha and Vishnu are traditionally considered more fruitful. Observing the vaar helps practitioners understand the overarching planetary influence governing the day's events.

Lunar Month and Paksha

The current lunar fortnight is the Krishna paksha. When readers ask which masa is going on now, the answer for this period is the Bhadrapada month (Ashwina according to the Purnimanta calendar). The current Vikram Samvat is 2083 and the Shaka Samvat is 1948. The year is known as Siddharthi in the Vikram system and Parabhava in the Shaka system. This occurs during the Sharad season of the Dakshinayana ayana, with the sun currently positioned in Virgo.

Moon Sign and Chandrabalam

The moon is positioned in the Leo sign until 03:18 AM, 9 Oct. During this time, Chandrabalam is traditionally strong for those with moon signs in Gemini, Leo, Libra, Scorpio, Aquarius, Pisces. The movement of the moon through the rashis is essential for determining the mental and emotional temperament of the day.

Festivals and Vrats

This day is marked by the celebration of Dwadashi Shraddha. Such festivals are traditionally observed with specific rituals, prayers, and fasting to honor the deities associated with the occasion. Following the traditional calendar allows devotees to align their spiritual practices with the lunar cycle. Observing these dates is a central part of the Vedic tradition.

Auspicious Timings

Selecting a shubh muhurat is traditionally believed to increase the likelihood of success. Here are the auspicious windows for this day:

Amrit Kalam: 07:20 PM to 08:54 PM
Vijaya Muhurta: 01:44 PM to 02:31 PM
Godhuli Time: 05:38 PM to 05:58 PM

These timings are traditionally considered favorable for starting new ventures, performing prayers, or signing important documents.

Inauspicious Timings

Certain periods are traditionally avoided for starting new or important work to minimize obstacles. The ashubh samay for this day includes:

Rahu Kaal: 11:46 AM to 01:14 PM
Yamaganda: 07:21 AM to 08:49 AM
Gulika Kaal: 10:17 AM to 11:46 AM
Dur Muhurtam 1: 11:22 AM to 12:09 PM

The Nishita Kaal, often used for specific tantric rituals, occurs from 11:22 PM to 12:10 AM, 8 Oct.

Day and Night Duration

The length of the day and night varies based on the sun's position. For this day, the Dinamana is 11 hours and 46 minutes. The Ratrimana is 12 hours and 13 minutes. The sun reaches its zenith at Madhyahna at 11:46 AM. Additionally, the moon rises at 02:27 AM and sets at 03:35 PM. These calculations are vital for those who follow a strict Vedic routine based on the actual duration of daylight.

Directional and Elemental Vasa

Vedic tradition suggests avoiding travel in certain directions based on the Nivas Shool. For this day, the Disha Shool is North. Other traditional placements include the Agnivasa in Prithvi and the Shivavasa on Vrishabha. The Chandra Vasa is in the West and the Rahu Vasa is in the South-West. These placements are traditionally used to determine the suitability of travel or the placement of the sacred fire during a havan.

Plan important tasks during the Vijaya Muhurta from 01:44 PM to 02:31 PM to seek success.
Avoid starting critical new projects during Rahu Kaal from 11:46 AM to 01:14 PM.
