Today's Tithi

The tithi at sunrise is Dwadashi, belonging to the Shukla paksha. It remains active until 02:36 PM, after which Trayodashi begins. Tithi is the lunar day, and it is the primary basis for fixing vrats and festivals in the Hindu calendar. Dwadashi is presided over by Lord Vishnu (Hari) and belongs to the Bhadra group. Traditionally, a Bhadra tithi is considered auspicious and is often used for health-related matters, performing yagna, and activities aimed at gaining prosperity. As Trayodashi begins in the afternoon, it brings the influence of Kamadeva and belongs to the Jaya group, which is traditionally associated with victory in contests, success in difficult tasks, and the pursuit of arts and learning. Many households observe the Pradosh vrat for Lord Shiva during the evening of Trayodashi.

Today's Nakshatra

At sunrise, the Moon is in Purva Bhadrapada nakshatra, which lasts until 09:03 PM, followed by Uttara Bhadrapada. Purva Bhadrapada is ruled by Jupiter and presided over by the deity Aja Ekapada. It is classified as an Ugra (fierce) nakshatra; tradition suggests it is not preferred for auspicious beginnings but is well-suited for firm, forceful, or decisive tasks. Following this, Uttara Bhadrapada begins, ruled by Saturn and presided over by Ahir Budhnya. This is a Dhruva (fixed) nakshatra, which is traditionally favoured for work intended to be lasting, such as laying foundations, planting trees, or assuming a permanent position. Both of these nakshatras are part of the Panchak period, which carries specific traditional cautions for certain activities.

Today's Yoga and Karana

The yoga at sunrise is Dhruva, which continues until 10:09 PM, after which Vyaghata yoga begins. Dhruva yoga is traditionally considered auspicious for the tasks undertaken during its duration. Regarding the karana, the day starts with Balava until 02:36 PM, followed by Kaulava until 02:13 AM on 24 October. Balava is a movable (Chara) karana and is traditionally seen as auspicious for rituals and learning. Kaulava is also a movable karana, traditionally associated with fostering friendship and harmony. There is no Vishti (Bhadra) Karana today, so there are no specific restrictions regarding that particular influence for auspicious beginnings.

Today's Vaar (Day of the Week)

Today is Friday, 23 October 2026. Friday is ruled by the planet Venus (Shukra) and is traditionally dedicated to the deities Lakshmi and Durga. In Vedic tradition, this day is associated with beauty, luxury, arts, and prosperity. It is often considered a favorable day for activities related to harmony, love, and the worship of the Divine Feminine to seek abundance and grace in one's life.

Paksha, Month and Samvat Today

We are currently in the Shukla paksha (the waxing phase of the moon). The Hindu month is Ashwina, according to both the Amanta and Purnimanta calendars. In terms of the era, the Vikram Samvat is 2083, known as the Siddharthi samvatsara, and the Shaka Samvat is 1948, known as the Parabhava samvatsara. The current season is Sharad (Autumn), and we are in the Dakshinayana (the southern transit of the sun).

Today's Moon Sign (Chandra Rashi)

The Moon is positioned in Aquarius until 03:04 PM, after which it transitions into Pisces. The Sun is currently in Libra. For those calculating Chandrabalam, the Moon's position in Aquarius until 03:04 PM is traditionally favourable for those with Aries, Taurus, Leo, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Aquarius rashis. After 03:04 PM and until 06:01 AM on 24 October, the favourable rashis shift to Taurus, Gemini, Virgo, Libra, Capricorn, and Pisces.

Today's Vrat and Festival

There are no major festivals listed for today. However, the transition to Trayodashi tithi in the afternoon makes the evening traditionally suitable for the Pradosh vrat dedicated to Lord Shiva. When deciding on the observance of a vrat, tradition suggests following the tithi that is prevailing at sunrise; in this case, the day begins as Dwadashi.

Shubh Muhurat in Today's Panchang

You can use these auspicious timings to plan your important activities for the day:

Abhijit Muhurat — 11:20 AM to 12:05 PM: A powerful window for starting new ventures or important tasks.
Vijaya Muhurta — 01:36 PM to 02:22 PM: Traditionally used for achieving victory or success in efforts.
Godhuli Muhurta — 05:23 PM to 05:43 PM: The auspicious time around sunset.
Amrit Kalam — 12:59 PM to 02:36 PM: Considered a highly beneficial time for most positive activities.
Sayahna Sandhya — 05:24 PM to 06:40 PM: The evening period for prayer and meditation.
Nishita Muhurta — 11:17 PM to 12:08 AM, 24 Oct: The midnight window often used for specific spiritual practices.

Ashubh Samay (Inauspicious Timings) Today

These periods are traditionally avoided for starting new auspicious work, though ongoing work may continue without interruption:

Rahu Kaal — 10:17 AM to 11:42 AM: Traditionally avoided for new beginnings.
Yamaganda — 02:33 PM to 03:59 PM: A period generally avoided for important tasks.
Gulika Kaal — 07:26 AM to 08:51 AM: Often avoided for starting new ventures.
Dur Muhurtam — 08:17 AM to 09:03 AM and 12:05 PM to 12:51 PM: Periods considered unfavorable.
Panchak — Active today (from 07:00 AM, 21 Oct to 07:22 PM, 25 Oct). Tradition suggests avoiding starting roof construction, collecting fuel/wood, making a bed, or traveling south during this time.

Dinamana, Ratrimana and Madhyahna

The day's length (Dinamana) is 11 hours, 24 minutes, and 1 second, while the night's length (Ratrimana) is 12 hours, 36 minutes, and 32 seconds. The midday point (Madhyahna) occurs at 11:42 AM. The Moon rises at 03:27 PM and sets at 03:55 AM on 24 October. These fundamental solar and lunar timings are the basis from which all other muhurtas and auspicious windows are derived.

Nivas and Shool

For your travel and spatial planning today, the Disha Shool (direction to be avoided) is West. The Agnivasa is in Patala, and Shivavasa is in Kailash. The Moon (Chandra Vasa) is in the East, while Rahu Vasa is in the West. The Homahuti is associated with Shukra, and the Anandadi yoga is Saumya, indicating a generally gentle and favorable quality to the day's energy.

How to Use Today's Panchang

To make the most of today's energies, you can follow these practical steps: First, if you are observing a vrat, rely on the sunrise tithi of Dwadashi. Second, for any important new start, choose a window like the Abhijit Muhurat (11:20 AM to 12:05 PM) or Amrit Kalam, ensuring it does not overlap with Rahu Kaal (10:17 AM to 11:42 AM). Third, if you are planning travel, be mindful of the Disha Shool in the West. Finally, utilize the early morning hours for your spiritual routine, noting that the next Brahma Muhurta begins at 04:20 AM on 24 October.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is shown in the Panchang table above, calculated at sunrise for the city you select. Pick your city from the dropdown to get the tithi that applies to you.

No. The five limbs are read at local sunrise, so cities far apart in longitude can show a different tithi or nakshatra on the same date.

At sunrise, not at midnight. A reading dated today stays in force until tomorrow's sunrise at your place.

Lahiri (Chitrapaksha), the standard used by the Indian national calendar and by most published panchangs.

Yes — use the date picker above. You can move day by day with the arrows or jump to any date to plan ahead.

Because a nakshatra rarely lasts exactly one day. The table lists the one running at sunrise and the one that follows it, each with its own start and end time, so you can see precisely when the change-over happens.

Rahu Kaal is one-eighth of the daylight, its position set by the weekday. New undertakings, journeys and major purchases are traditionally avoided during it — work already in progress is not stopped. Yamaganda and Gulika Kaal are read the same way.

Abhijit is the eighth of the day's fifteen muhurtas, straddling midday, and is used when no other auspicious window is available. On Wednesday that slot is counted as Dur Muhurtam instead, so the Panchang shows no Abhijit for that day.

Both are computed from the running nakshatra. Varjyam is a window to be rejected for new work; Amrit Kalam is the same window twenty ghatis (about eight hours) later and is considered especially favourable for beginnings.

Dinamana is the length of the day from sunrise to sunset and Ratrimana the length of the night that follows. Every muhurat on this page is a fraction of one of them, which is why all the timings shift through the year and between cities.
