What is Brahma Muhurat?
Brahma Muhurat ("the time of Brahma / of the Creator") is the auspicious period just before dawn — the fourteenth of the night's fifteen muhurtas, the one that ends about a muhurta before sunrise. It begins roughly 1 hour 36 minutes before sunrise and lasts about 48 minutes. Considered the most sattvic (pure and calm) part of the day, it is prized for spiritual practice.
Why it matters
The mind is quiet and the air is fresh at this hour, so tradition recommends Brahma Muhurat for meditation, yoga and pranayama, worship, chanting and study. Waking in this window and beginning the day with sadhana is a long-held habit of yogis and students of the scriptures.
How the timing is set
Brahma Muhurat is measured back from local sunrise, so its start and end shift with your place and date — sunrise itself moves through the year and across longitudes. Set your location above so the window matches your city.
Using Brahma Muhurat
Read it together with the day's Panchang and the other auspicious times — Abhijit Muhurat at midday and the full Do Ghati muhurtas — and keep clear of Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda and Gulika for other work.
