The Griha Pravesh ceremony
Entering a new home in an auspicious Lagna and Tithi is believed to bring peace, happiness and prosperity. Griha Pravesh is confined to favourable months and is prohibited during Chaturmas (Ashadha, Shravana, Bhadrapada, Ashwin) and Pausha, which is why those months are absent from the list.
The classical rules used here
- Months — Magha, Phalguna, Chaitra, Vaishakha, Jyeshtha, Kartik and Margashirsha; Chaturmas and Pausha are excluded.
- Weekdays — all days except Tuesday and Sunday.
- Tithis — Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami, Dashami, Ekadashi, Dwadashi and Trayodashi of the Shukla Paksha; Amavasya and Purnima are avoided.
- Nakshatras — the fixed and soft nakshatras favoured for entering a home (Rohini, Mrigashira, Pushya, Hasta, Chitra, Anuradha, Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha, Shravana, Dhanishtha, Shatabhisha, Uttara Bhadrapada, Revati).
