What is Guru Pushya Yoga?

Guru Pushya Yoga (also Guru Pushyamrit Yoga) is formed when the Pushya nakshatra falls on a Thursday — the day of Guru (Jupiter). Pushya is regarded as the most auspicious of the 27 nakshatras, and its coincidence with Jupiter's own weekday makes the combination especially powerful. The yoga lasts for as long as both hold together on that day — the overlap of the Pushya nakshatra with the Thursday from sunrise to the next sunrise.

What it is good for

Guru Pushya is prized for buying gold and property, starting a business, signing deals, investing, and beginning study or spiritual practice. Purchases and new ventures begun in this window are believed to grow and endure. One traditional exception: marriage is generally avoided during Pushya.

How the timings are set

The Pushya nakshatra begins and ends at the same instant everywhere, but the Thursday "day" is measured from your local sunrise to the next sunrise — so the exact window depends on your location. Set your city above so the times are correct for you. When Pushya starts after Thursday sunrise the window begins then; when it runs past the next sunrise it is cut at daybreak.

Ravi Pushya

When Pushya instead falls on a Sunday (Ravi, the Sun's day), the similar Ravi Pushya Yoga is formed — also auspicious, especially for new beginnings.
